$4 Million Meme NFT! Doge Meme Origin "Shiba Inu Kabosu" Released as NFT on Zora, Acquired by PleasrDAO

The Doge meme featuring the Shiba Inu with a sly look has become a must-have image in the crypto community. The original dog, known as かぼす Kabosu, had several of her photos minted as NFTs by her owner on the NFT platform Zora on June 8. One of the most iconic images was purchased by PleasrDAO for four million dollars, setting a record for meme NFTs.

The Doge meme originated from a Shiba Inu named Kabosu from Japan. The classic photo was taken by her owner Atsuko Sato in 2010 and has since been widely shared on the internet, leading to various meme adaptations.

On June 8, the owner launched various photo NFTs of Kabosu on the NFT platform Zora, including the source of the classic meme. The NFT was named "Doge" by the owner. A portion of the proceeds from this auction will be donated to various charities.

The decentralized organization named PleasrDAO, under the pseudonym digital artist pplpleasr, ultimately acquired the photo NFT for 1696.9 ETH, equivalent to four million USD at the time.

Artist pplpleasr specially created a new animation for this occasion, and PleasrDAO amusingly changed their Twitter handle to "PleasrDAOGE." PleasrDAO had previously spent 5.4 million USD to acquire Edward Snowden's NFT.
