OpenAI Asia Office Established in Japan
The press release indicates that as its international operations continue to expand, OpenAI is making its way into Asia by setting up a new office in Tokyo, Japan. Through this, they aim to collaborate with the Japanese government, local businesses, and research institutions to develop secure artificial intelligence tools that cater to Japan's unique needs and unlock new opportunities. Tokyo was chosen as the first Asian office for OpenAI due to its leading position in technology, service culture, and innovation embracement globally.
The new local business in Japan also brings OpenAI closer to major companies like Daikin, Rakuten, and Toyota, who are utilizing ChatGPT Enterprise to automate complex business processes, assist in data analysis, and optimize internal reports. ChatGPT is also helping speed up efforts by local governments like Yokosuka City, which is leveraging the technology to enhance the efficiency of public services in Japan. Over the past year, the city has gradually provided ChatGPT access to almost all city employees, with 80% of them reporting increased work efficiency.
Ark Venture Fund Invests in OpenAI
The renowned investor Cathie Wood's Ark Venture Fund has also made an investment in OpenAI. Ark Venture Fund holds many early-stage private shares, investing in numerous pre-IPO startups. Established in September 2022, it currently manages assets totaling $53.7 million.
Ark Venture Fund investments in AI companies include Anthropic, Figure AI, OpenAI, Shield AI, and Sortium AI. Others in their portfolio include Musk's X Corp and SpaceX, as well as well-known names like Epic Games, Discord, Coinbase, Block, and Tesla.
