Ripple announces partnership with Yonsei University in South Korea for UBRI blockchain research program.

Ripple announced on September 2nd its collaboration with Yonsei University in South Korea on the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) for blockchain academic research. Yonsei University is the fifty-eighth global partner to join Ripple's research program and the twelfth partner in the Asia-Pacific University Alliance.

Eric Van Miltenburg, Senior Vice President of Strategic Growth at Ripple, posted a photo on X with a smiling cheese emoji and the South Korean flag sticker to welcome Yonsei University's participation.

He said, "Welcome Yonsei University as our newest UBRI partner in Asia! Our innovation footprint is growing with nearly sixty university partners worldwide, building blockchain education and legacy for the next generation."

In June of this year, Ripple announced its funding support for initiatives in Japan and South Korea to promote the XRP Ledger (XRPL), a decentralized public ledger. The collaboration between Ripple and Yonsei University confirms Ripple's focus and deployment in the Asian blockchain market. Advancing finance through blockchain education and academic research.

Assistant Professor Jun Kyung Auh of Yonsei University expressed gratitude for Ripple's research grant, becoming a funding partner of Ripple's UBRI. Yonsei University, along with Korea University and other educational partners within the alliance, will drive blockchain education in South Korea. This includes Korea University's XRPL validator launched in 2018, funding allocated to other collaborating universities in the UBRI projects, including Hyunok Oh's Zero-knowledge Proofs (ZKP) and research and application scenarios for security and privacy.

The grant from Ripple will also be used for university campus hackathons and to provide Yonsei University with XRPL public chain UNL node verification for decentralized network and security research.

Ripple's UBRI University Blockchain Research Initiative

UBRI is Ripple's academic blockchain research initiative in collaboration with top universities worldwide, including Ivy League universities such as Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania. UBRI's academic research projects cover cryptography, consensus mechanisms, AI, stablecoins, XRP Ledger, zero-knowledge proofs, encrypted payments, and central bank digital currencies CBDC, among others. Ripple provides funding, scholarships, and grants to universities, professors, students, and researchers.

The latest research report from UBRI has been released, containing numerous academic research papers. For those interested in learning more, you can read the UBRI 2024 Research.

Federated Consensus Model Promoted by XRPL at Yonsei University

Ripple's XRPL operates on a federated consensus model. Validators on the Ripple ledger are verified by universities, individuals, and businesses worldwide to ensure consistency in transactions on the XRP ledger. XRPL's public chain will be made available for joint operation of nodes and validators at Yonsei University, inspiring students to explore blockchain and accelerating blockchain education.
