Banana Gun team investigates wallet theft incident, Telegram bot has been taken offline

The team behind the popular Telegram-based trading bot Banana Gun is currently investigating reports of user wallets being hacked, leading to significant financial losses. According to feedback from community members, this issue has affected multiple users, and as a precautionary measure, the bot has been temporarily taken offline.

Multiple Wallets Hacked Incident

Several users reported that funds in wallets connected to the Banana Gun Telegram bot were stolen. These reports first surfaced in the platform's community, raising concerns about potential security vulnerabilities. The Banana Gun team quickly responded, acknowledging the situation in a pinned message on their official Telegram channel: "We are investigating this issue, and the bot is currently offline," assuring that they are actively addressing the problem.

Reportedly About $1.4 Million Stolen

A prominent community member known as yannickcrypto.eth shared the incident on the community platform X, stating: "It appears that there are currently 36 victims, totaling around 563 ETH, $1.4 million, stolen on the mainnet." While these figures are concerning, yannickcrypto.eth also noted that it is unclear whether Banana Gun itself was directly hacked, as the number of affected users may not be sufficient to indicate a large-scale system vulnerability.

Following the investigation, Banana Gun stated: "We have confirmed that our backend was not compromised. Routers and databases have been thoroughly checked, and only a very small number of users (less than 10) were affected. Furthermore, the transfers appear to have been executed manually. This leads us to believe that the issue may stem from a frontend vulnerability. As we prioritize security, we will keep the bot offline while investigating the root cause."

What is Banana Gun?

Banana Gun is a popular trading bot integrated within Telegram, allowing users to engage in on-chain trading and token acquisitions. Due to its user-friendly interface and efficient functionalities in cryptocurrency trading, the bot has gained significant popularity. To date, Banana Gun has facilitated over $6 billion in trading volume with nearly 272,000 users, making it one of the top Telegram trading bots in the industry.

Not the First Issue for Banana Gun

This is not the first time Banana Gun has faced technical difficulties. Back in September, the project encountered a major event when launching its revenue-sharing token, Banana. A flaw in the token contract led to a failed issuance process, disappointing both users and developers.

Currently, the team is working diligently to address this latest issue and advises users to refrain from connecting their wallets to the bot until more information is available. Whether this incident will lead to further changes in the platform's security protocols remains to be seen.
