Wanted for JPEX Fraud: Wong Ching-kit's Controversial Past

Wong Ching-kit was previously known for an incident in 2018 when he was suspected of throwing over HK$6,000 in cash from a rooftop in Hong Kong, causing a commotion among passersby. Although he denied involvement, some witnesses saw him alighting from a Lamborghini before the incident and provocatively asking the crowd if they believed money would fall from the sky. The Lamborghini bore the logo of the cryptocurrency he was promoting. He was arrested for disorderly conduct in a public place and later released on bail.

According to reports, Wong Ching-kit was also involved in legal disputes in 2019 when he was arrested for alleged conspiracy to commit fraud. Wong publicly promoted a mining machine priced in the five digits, claiming it could mine the cryptocurrency Filecash coin FCC and guarantee buyers to recoup their costs within three months. However, multiple buyers subsequently filed complaints, accusing Wong of making false promises, with the amount involved totaling at least HK$27.5 million. As a result, the police arrested Wong Ching-kit and his assistant Mo Chun-ting on charges of conspiracy to commit fraud, and a buyer filed a lawsuit seeking compensation of HK$125,000. In a small claims case in December 2022, both Mo Chun-ting and Wong Ching-kit were named as defendants.

In 2023, the cryptocurrency exchange platform JEPX was exposed for suspected fraud for not applying for a license from the Securities and Futures Commission. The platform used various promotional methods to attract investors until users were unable to withdraw their assets, leading to the exposure of the incident. Subsequently, 70 people were arrested, and as of February 8 this year, a total of 2,636 cases had been reported to the police, involving an amount of approximately HK$1.61 billion; the JPEX case marks an important chapter in Wong Ching-kit's controversial career. As one of the internet celebrities promoting JPEX, Wong quickly deleted all related YouTube content after Hong Kong authorities ordered the cessation of promotional activities, and he remains wanted in connection with this case.

It is understood that before entering the cryptocurrency circle, Wong Ching-kit worked as a swimming coach and changed his name in 2021 due to theft charges. The story of his transformation from a swimming coach to a coin circle KOL and eventually a fraudster has garnered widespread attention in society.
