Email airdrop notification, please be cautious! Cryptocurrency phishing scams are on the rise.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino warns cryptocurrency users to be cautious of ongoing email scams. These fraudulent emails are occurring following a breach at a well-known email provider. CoinGecko co-founder and COO Bobby Ong also confirmed Ardoino's statement.

Ardoino issued a statement last night warning that Tether has received 3 separate attestation letters indicating that a well-known provider used by the cryptocurrency company to manage its mailing list may have been compromised. Tether is refraining from disclosing the name until the investigation is complete, but it could be a supply chain attack targeting the crypto industry.

Be cautious of any emails received in the past 24 hours hinting at cryptocurrency airdrops.

CoinGecko co-founder and COO Bobby Ong also confirmed this, urging vigilance against phishing links in emails, especially those related to false token issuances.

CoinGecko is actively collaborating with the provider to further investigate and determine the extent of this breach. Phishing emails from other client accounts have been observed falsely announcing that CoinGecko plans to launch new crypto tokens. Ong emphasized:

CoinGecko has no plans to issue new tokens, so do not be deceived by these phishing emails.

Readers are also reminded to carefully inspect emails and avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious sources.
