Is Taiwan ignoring JPEX? JPEX has invested tens of millions in Taiwan, with spokespersons and sponsored media making a profit.

The trading platform JPEX has been deemed as a "fraud" investigation by the Hong Kong police. On September 19th, the police announced the arrest of eight individuals, involving approximately 1.2 billion Hong Kong dollars (4.8 billion New Taiwan dollars), with over 1,600 reported cases. In contrast to the enforcement actions taken in Hong Kong, JPEX has been investing heavily in marketing in Taiwan since 2023, bribing endorsers, media outlets, and connecting with OTC merchants to engage in illegal operations, without any relevant investigation actions by the Taiwanese judicial units.

Initial estimates suggest that JPEX's marketing expenses in Taiwan may reach millions of New Taiwan dollars, including whether they involve victims' funds or illicit financial flows; once clarified, it may aid in compensating the victims. Additionally, if celebrities or media knowingly assist in advertising, they will also bear joint compensation responsibilities, facilitating compensation.

JPEX has been generous in its expansion in Taiwan, willing to accept "high quotes," even rumored to be willing to pay media up to $80,000 USD per month for promotion. Spokesperson Chen Ling-Jiu may potentially accept a fee of NT$3 million per year for the contract.

Did Chen Ling-Jiu End His JPEX Endorsement in July?

Chen Ling-Jiu's agent stated that the collaboration with JPEX ended by the end of July 2023, and related promotional materials have been taken down.

Chen Ling-Jiu's agent stated the collaboration has ended

However, there are still doubts within the community. It was not until September 16, 2023, that the large endorsement advertisement of Chen Ling-Jiu in the blockchain building was removed. The community also discovered Chen Ling-Jiu's Instagram account, questioning why he was invited to a blockchain building event as a spokesperson if the contract had already ended at the end of July. The truth remains unclear, pending investigations by the management company and relevant authorities.

Media Profits from JPEX Advertising Fees: Could Earn Hundreds of Thousands NT Dollars in Nine Months

According to community data, Taiwan's cryptocurrency media outlets could earn millions of NT dollars solely from "JPEX press releases" and "site advertisements," not including more discreet sponsored articles, with an estimated total income in the range of hundreds of thousands NT dollars.

Based on the media's quoted rates: "Press Release Publication and Social Media Promotion" at $2,100 USD per article, and "Site Homepage Banner Advertisement" at $6,000 - $10,000 USD for seven days.

For JPEX press releases: "Press Release Publication and Social Media Promotion" 27 articles + "Site Homepage Banner Advertisement" for five months. Using a conservative estimate of seven days per month: 27 * $2,100 + 5 * $10,000 = $106,700 USD, approximately NT$3.2 million.

Professional Cryptocurrency Media, Familiar Influencers Aware of JPEX Issues?

On July 8, 2022, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission had already listed JPEX on its list of unlicensed companies and suspicious websites. Despite this, Taiwan's cryptocurrency media and influencers continue to collaborate. Are they truly unaware or do they hold a sense of "Taiwan won't care" mentality?

Multiple Warnings Issued to Chen Ling-Jiu

According to sources, after the FTX incident last November, Chen Ling-Jiu signed an endorsement contract, with the industry and community expressing warnings that JPEX had many victims in Hong Kong, categorizing it as a high-risk platform. Given the risks, is it irresponsible to terminate the contract early and inform the public?

Cryptocurrency Media Long Aware

The "professional cryptocurrency media" reported the news when the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission listed JPEX as an unlicensed company and suspicious website on July 18, 2022, indicating they should have been aware of its high-risk nature. Despite community concerns about JPEX's risks during the extensive advertising period in 2023, they continued to disseminate ads without addressing the risks.

JPEX offered unreasonably high annualized rates, a pyramid-like referral system, and unreasonable practices of enticing OTC trading for pledging. The "professional cryptocurrency media" should have had the common sense to understand the risks associated with JPEX. With regulatory realities and obvious anomalies, the motivations for accepting advertising fees remain unclear.
