Taichung Gambling Case: A man surnamed Liu illegally used virtual currency to manipulate funds for gamblers, with deposits totaling up to 600 million New Taiwan Dollars
A man surnamed Liu in Taichung City and his team used the legitimate guise of "Jingchao Advertising Company" to secretly operate an illegal gambling transfer room, specializing in facilitating fund transfers for gamblers using virtual currencies. After a year-long investigation by the authorities, they finally seized investment-linked insurance policies worth 25.89 million New Taiwan Dollars under Liu's name and concluded the case, prosecuting Liu and 14 others.

Prosecutor Bai Hui-shu from the Taichung District Prosecutors' Office investigated the case and discovered that a 50-year-old man surnamed Liu used the legitimate "Jingchao Advertising Company" as a cover to actually operate an illegal gambling transfer room, conducting fund operations for gamblers using cryptocurrency. The case was investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau's Fourth Team, Taichung City Criminal Investigation Division's Fifth Team, Seventh Team, and the Second Police Precinct's joint task force.
Police Action Uncovers Illegal GamblingFirst Wave of Action: Initial DetentionOn September 26 last year, police conducted the first search operation, detaining 7 group members for questioning and conducting technological analysis on confiscated key evidence to trace Liu's true identity and work content.
Second Wave of Action: Seizure of Virtual AssetsOn January 30 this year, when Liu returned to Taiwan from abroad, police launched the second wave of search operation, seizing his investment-type savings policy worth 25.89 million yuan and obtaining court approval to detain Liu.
Third Wave of Action: Expanded InvestigationOn April 23 this year, police carried out the third wave of search operations, detaining another 6 group members for questioning, expanding the investigation into the operation of the illegal gambling transfer room.
Clear Division of Labor within the GroupPolice investigation revealed that Liu and others set up customer service and control departments within the company. The customer service department was responsible for reviewing gambler membership qualifications, responding to sports event rules, odds, and other questions raised by gamblers online; the control department was responsible for interfacing with the "deposit and withdrawal channels," actually using computers to recharge gambling funds and withdraw funds for gamblers with cryptocurrency, concealing and disguising criminal proceeds, and engaging in money laundering activities.
Exposure of Large Cash Flow: Deposits Exceeding 600 Million New Taiwan DollarsThrough technological and cryptocurrency wallet analysis, police traced that the group led by Liu deposited a total of approximately 617.6 million New Taiwan Dollars into the "○○ Water Room."
The Taichung District Prosecutors' Office concluded the investigation and charged Liu and 14 others with organized crime, gambling, money laundering, and other offenses, and brought them to trial. The court ruled to detain Liu to prevent him from escaping or destroying evidence.
