Suarez announced on Twitter on the 2nd: "I will be taking my next pay 100% in Bitcoin...problem solved!"

Serving as the Mayor of Miami since 2017, Suarez has been a strong advocate for Bitcoin, with paying salaries in Bitcoin being one of his key initiatives. Employees can receive their wages through apps like Bitwage or Strike, eliminating the need for the government to convert fiat currency into Bitcoin.

Reports indicate that the Mayor of Miami had an annual salary of $97,000 between 2016 and 2017. Therefore, he would receive over $8,000 or approximately 0.13 Bitcoin as a monthly salary at the current price of $63,404.

Suarez has publicly shared that he owns Bitcoin and Ether, and he is dedicated to making Miami a hub for the most advanced crypto laws in the United States. As a result, many crypto-related businesses and events have flocked to Miami, such as the Bitcoin 2021 conference in June. Venture capital firm Borderless Capital is launching a $25 million fund to support blockchain startups based in Miami.

In addition to Miami, other cities in the United States are also making efforts to embrace Bitcoin. In August, Jayson Stewart, the Mayor of Cool Valley, Missouri, proposed giving over $1 million in Bitcoin to approximately 1,500 residents of the city. Eric Adams, a former police officer and the likely winner of the New York City mayoral race, has also expressed plans to establish New York as a Bitcoin hub.
