Bribe of 1032 Bitcoins! Former Russian prosecutor earned "pension" with hacker group Infraud

According to reports, former Russian prosecutor Marat Tambiyev has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for allegedly accepting a bribe of 1,032 bitcoins from the hacking group Infraud. The case involves over $65 million and is considered one of the largest bribery cases in Russian history. Authorities found an Apple laptop in Tambiyev's home containing a "pension" of bitcoins worth millions of dollars.

Hacker Offers $10 Million Bitcoin Bribe, Temptation Unstoppable

Marat Tambiyev, who worked at the Russian Investigative Committee ICR in 2011, is accused of accepting a $10 million Bitcoin bribe from the hacker group Infraud in 2022, aiding members Kirill Samokutyaevsky and Konstantin Bergmanov in retaining their illegal gains.

Authorities stated that Tambiyev accepted the Bitcoin bribe on April 7, 2022, with the condition that he would not seize Infraud's illegal gains, thereby helping the implicated members evade punishment.

"Bitcoin Pension" Found in Apple Laptop

In early 2023, Russian authorities found an Apple laptop in Tambiyev's home containing a folder named "Pension," which held two wallet private keys with a total of 1,032 Bitcoins.

Authorities stated that this substantial sum was not Tambiyev's salary earnings, as he had only earned a maximum of $144,000 over his 12-year tenure, indicating that these Bitcoins were illicit gains.

Tambiyev Protests Innocence, Vows to Defend Against Allegations

Tambiyev denies all corruption allegations, claiming he is being framed, and has sued the Russian authorities demanding reinstatement of his position and compensation for the loss during his suspension. However, the authorities have obtained substantial evidence of his involvement in the bribery case, ultimately rejecting Tambiyev's appeal. Despite the dismissal of his appeal, Tambiyev is determined to defend himself, with a new hearing scheduled by the Russian court next Monday, where the prosecution seeks to confiscate his Bitcoin assets.

In this bribery case, not only Tambiyev but also his colleague Kristina Lyakhovenko has been sentenced to nine years in prison. Both deny the charges brought by the authorities, with Tambiyev claiming he is being set up. He plans to appeal again and continue to defend himself.
