Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) was established in 1996 as a government organization overseeing the technology industry, ensuring Malaysia plays a significant role in the global digital revolution and attracting companies looking to invest and develop innovative solutions in the country.

On June 18, MDEC announced a visa program in collaboration with blockchain organization Nem Foundation and Estonia-based cross-border job market Jobbatical, allowing foreign talents with professional qualifications or skills to enter Malaysia for up to 12 months.

Norhizam Abdul Kadir, Vice President of Growth Ecosystem Development at MDEC, stated:

The Nem Foundation will vet talents provided by Jobbatical, while MDEC will help facilitate the entire process. The number of visas issued will depend on the projects that Malaysian blockchain companies will be operating.

The digital currency issued by NEM is called XEM, currently priced at $0.087, ranking as the 21st largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization. According to a previous report, the NEM Foundation has established a 10,000-square-foot NEM Blockchain Center in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, which houses the NEM Blockchain Innovation Lab and serves as the research and development headquarters for the NEM platform.
