US Mayor Follows Trend of Receiving Salary in Bitcoin, Gold Bull Peter Schiff: They

After Miami Mayor Francis Suarez claimed he would receive his next month's salary fully in Bitcoin, several mayors in the United States have followed suit. However, prominent gold advocate Peter Schiff believes that this is just a marketing stunt driven by political motives.

Pay Me In Bitcoin

According to previous reports about the Mayor of Miami and the subsequent trend, as of now, four mayors in the United States have expressed their willingness to receive their salaries in Bitcoin. They are:

  • Mayor Francis Suarez of Miami
  • New York City Mayor Eric Adams
  • Mayor Jane Castor of Tampa, Florida
  • Mayor Scott Conger of Jackson, Tennessee

Mayor Suarez of Miami tweeted on 11/2 that he is willing to be paid in full with Bitcoin. Following this, the newly elected Mayor of New York City commented on the tweet on 11/5:

In New York, we always do big things. I will be taking my first three months' salary in Bitcoin. New York is going to be the center of crypto and innovation, just watch!

Mayor Scott Conger of Jackson has been actively promoting Bitcoin as reported earlier. He mentioned that Tennessee regulations do not allow him to receive his salary in Bitcoin, but he will manually handle the conversion.

Mayor Jane Castor of Tampa replied to Mayor Suarez's tweet, stating that she is a bit late to the party but ready for the challenge. However, she did not disclose how many months of Bitcoin salary she plans to convert.

Peter Schiff: Driven by Political Intentions

Renowned gold bull and Bitcoin critic Peter Schiff does not agree with the actions of these mayors. He stated:

The newly elected Mayor of New York City and the Mayor of Miami wanting to be paid in Bitcoin doesn't mean Bitcoin is a medium of exchange. These politicians are just trying to attract crypto whales for political donations and to bring crypto-related businesses into their cities.
