Ethereum founder AMA | States Ethereum doesn't win by relying on regulation, what are the safest wallets and exchanges?
Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin conducted another Twitter AMA on June 28, where unlike the 2021 AMA, not only Vitalik's followers could ask questions, but other Twitter users could also ask questions by way of retweeting. In addition to addressing Ethereum's development and his views on other blockchain projects, he also shared his perspective on AI development and personal interests.

Paradigm Co-Founder Matt Huang: What are your views on US cryptocurrency policy?
Vitalik: All I want to say is that I feel bad for projects like Solana that are facing similar attacks. They shouldn't have to go through this. If Ethereum ultimately wins because all other projects have been delisted by exchanges, that's not a glorious way to win, and in the long run, it's not even winning.
The reality is that "competition" comes not from other projects, but from the pressure exerted by the rapidly expanding centralized world, which is happening as we speak. May all respectable projects in the world face fair outcomes in the future under any circumstances.
Bankless Co-Founder David Hoffman: What aspects of the crypto field do you find most annoying and challenging?
As before, the main innovation in the public's perception of cryptocurrencies is the introduction of tokens into things.
There are many other aspects, such as a significant misallocation of capital, ultra-easily compromised principles of false libertarians, entirely unrealistic purism beliefs, and unnecessary divisions.
Bitcoin Cash supporter @TheBCHPodcast: Have your views on BCH changed? I remember your last public statement was that BCH would fail due to infighting.
Vitalik: BCH has definitely made cultural progress. Good luck to you.
The Graph developer Eva Beylin: Which countries are most likely to be the most crypto-friendly and become long-term viable crypto centers?
Vitalik: Generally, I am more optimistic about smaller countries compared to larger ones.
Twitter user @Derailed_r: Which type of DAO voting mechanism is better? Equal voting rights for everyone, or electing representatives? Even large communities seem unsure which is better.
Vitalik: This mainly depends on the orientation of the DAO to decide. Please refer to the previous work "DAOs are not companies".
Twitter user @pilot_winds: What are the safest cold wallets and exchanges recently?
Vitalik: Gnosis Safe wallet
Ethereum
Ethereum supporter Evan Van Ness: Are you worried that Ethereum's culture will follow in Bitcoin's footsteps? Where only non-technical things are emphasized?
Vitalik: I'm not sure if "emphasizing non-technical things" is the problem, but more serious are the combination of "non-technical," "overconfidence," and "exclusivity." I think the latter two are more important, and this is definitely an issue worth paying attention to.
Twitter user @MoonGotchi: What do you think about DAI seeking real-world assets instead of insisting on decentralization?
Vitalik: MakerDAO should be deployed on one of the existing L2 public chains to allow users to borrow DAI at lower costs. I think there is a lot of design and development space for integrating real-world assets, but it needs to be done very carefully to ensure wide asset distribution and stable governance mechanisms.
Twitter user @pourteaux: Do you think it's worth improving the relationship between ETH and BTC believers? How can this be achieved?
Vitalik: I would say that a common effort could be to work harder to build and use non-blockchain-based freedom and privacy tools, such as end-to-end communication software without numbers, network anonymity, end-to-end collaboration tools, and open-source hardware, VR, etc.
Coinbase Senior Engineer yuga.eth: How do you view external account wallets based on multi-signature calculations compared to smart contract wallets? What are the pros and cons?
Vitalik: External account wallets based on MPC have fundamental flaws because they cannot revoke private keys; smart contract wallets are the only choice.
Note: MPC wallets, short for Multi-Party Computation, primarily involve fragmenting private keys to allow multiple participants to perform calculations for multi-signature; external account wallets (EOA), including mainstream wallets like MetaMask, OKX Wallet, are kept by users; smart contract accounts are controlled by code and can achieve functions like batch transactions, social recovery, etc.
Wallet project Soul Wallet: If you could start over, would you introduce native account abstraction features on Ethereum?
Vitalik: Definitely, I would, and I would implement proposals like ERC-4337 at the design stage.
Global Developments
Twitter user @danvalicek: The "Artificial Intelligence Act" regulates the use of AI, but the military is not subject to it. The law states "trust the military to act in the best judgment." This is not only a moral issue but also very dangerous.
Vitalik: Agreed, strongly opposed to AI regulatory policies assuming that the military is more trustworthy than anyone else.
Same user: Will quantum computing destroy or enhance blockchain security?
Vitalik: Blockchain will need to adapt more to quantum computing in the future, but there won't be any issues.
Socialist @TBSocialist: What aspects of socialism do you find interesting?
Vitalik: It is very concerned about monopolies and resource inequality. I appreciate the principled ways it addresses these situations, and the internationalist spirit that existed in early socialism is really great and valuable.
Layer 2 researcher Luozhu: What do you imagine about Mars? Would you settle for a one-way ticket for $50,000?
Vitalik: It depends on the quality of life! And the ultimate jurisdiction, culture, etc., of the Martian city.
Personal, Lifestyle
Twitter user @cjd_artist: Are you continuing to donate to Ukraine?
Vitalik: Yes, I have donated multiple times this year using ETH.
a16z Crypto Engineer ncitron.eth: What are your favorite book, game, and movie?
Vitalik: My favorite is the fan work Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality.
Layer 2 researcher pseudo: Besides crypto and aging research, what else do you like?
Vitalik: Nomadism?
Twitter user @qma564: Which apps do you use most frequently?
Vitalik: Web browser, chat apps, language learning app Duolingo, English-Chinese dictionary Pleco, and an ETH wallet? Vitalik added a question mark himself
Twitter user @CathyTie: What is your favorite animal?
Vitalik: Monkeys!
