Zcash Founder Criticizes WHO

Recently, the founder of the well-known privacy coin Zcash, Zooko, mentioned the importance of "Taiwan" in the pandemic on social media, even criticizing the World Health Organization (WHO) for blindly catering to the demands of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

As the pandemic continues to escalate in Europe and the United States, the cryptocurrency community has shown a growing interest in the situation. It was reported that Ryan Selkis, the founder of the well-known research firm Messari, not only added a pandemic tracking section to the website but also sparked misunderstandings on Twitter due to his numerous pandemic-related posts.

Zooko has been paying attention to the pandemic for some time, criticizing the World Health Organization (WHO) and the People's Republic of China (PRC) on various issues. However, the recent focus on Taiwan was mainly due to the "WHO overlooking Taiwan's pandemic warning" and "Hong Kong reporters questioning Taiwan, with WHO feigning ignorance" incidents.

On the 29th, Zooko stated that Taiwan had warned the WHO as early as December 31st about the human-to-human transmission risk of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), but the WHO still issued a statement based on China's official investigation, claiming there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission.

This incident caused Zooko to lose confidence in the WHO. He reiterated today (30): "Please, do not trust any advice from this untrustworthy organization." This was in response to the recent release of dietary advice during the pandemic by the WHO, which he believes is providing inaccurate information and pretending that Taiwan's situation is no different from China's.

Zooko seems very satisfied with Taiwan's epidemic prevention achievements, stating: "Despite Taiwan's proximity to China and the millions of people traveling between the two places, Taiwan has only a few confirmed cases and just two deaths to date."

He also mentioned a recent video from Radio Television Hong Kong interviewing WHO expert Bruce Aylward, where Aylward pretended not to hear when asked questions about Taiwan and the pandemic, even hanging up the call. Zooko bluntly stated: "I can't even continue talking about this video, see for yourselves..."

Within the cryptocurrency community, many are concerned about the pandemic, but discussions about Taiwan are scarce. It is understood that Zooko has visited China for exchanges and visits early on and enjoys high visibility in the cryptocurrency field. The Chinese market is crucial for cryptocurrencies, and compared to public figures who avoid political risks, Zooko's outspokenness is rare.

Ethereum founder Vitalik has praised Zcash's achievements multiple times, calling it a leading project and stating that through Zcash's technology, Ethereum's scalability could be greatly enhanced. In contrast, Vitalik, who is closely associated with the Chinese community, has made fewer comments on the pandemic and is more focused on his research-related Twitter posts.
