Community Hopes Ethereum Will Upgrade Back to PoW? Vitalik: Proof of Work is Also Centralized

Serotonin CEO Amanda stated on Twitter that privately, members of the Ethereum community are in favor of maintaining the Proof of Work (PoW) mechanism, catching Vitalik's attention and prompting a response that "Proof of Work is more centralized."

What are the advantages of PoW mechanism?

Amanda stated that many Ethereum community members actually expressed privately that they hope Ethereum will continue to use PoW instead of transitioning to Proof of Stake, PoS. The main reasons are as follows:

• Centralization risk: PoS mechanism is more centralized in verification.
• Power balance: Originally, three groups of stakeholders balanced each other out, while PoS eliminates miners.
• Real-world relevance: Energy prices are factored into mining.

However, many believe that there are not really "many" Ethereum members discussing this issue, perhaps it is just Amanda expressing her own opinion, but it did provoke a response from Vitalik.

Vitalik refutes and states that PoW is equally centralized

In response to the first point, Vitalik stated that the PoW mechanism is also quite centralized and released a past distribution chart of Ethereum's computing power, which hasn't been widely discussed because everyone knows it was just a transitional phase before PoS.

Regarding the third point, Vitalik mentioned that PoS doesn't need to worry about avoiding the use of ASIC miners for mining. Note: There won't be issues of energy waste.

As for the issue of power balance, although Vitalik did not directly respond, in fact, Ethereum's recent development direction already has corresponding measures in place.
