ChatGPT launches API service! CryptoPunks used as backdrop for much cheaper sale prices

The AI chatbot ChatGPT, which gained instant popularity upon its debut, has launched an API service today. Enterprises, products, or services interested in this technology can integrate it into their applications through this feature. In order to promote their product, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman even used CryptoPunk on Twitter to highlight the advantages of this service.

ChatGPT API Service

According to the official announcement, the model behind the ChatGPT API is "gpt-3.5-turbo," which is the same AI model as the ChatGPT product. The price is 0.002 USD per 1,000 token characters, making it 10 times cheaper than the current GPT-3.5 model. In addition to chatbots, this API can also be used in other non-chat related applications.

In addition to the ChatGPT API, OpenAI's speech-to-text model "Whisper" is also available for use at the same time. The price is 0.006 USD per minute, supporting translation or transcription of various file formats such as m4a, mp3, mp4, and mpeg.

OpenAI CEO Promotes Product Using CryptoPunks

To showcase how affordable their product is, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made an interesting comparison using CryptoPunks.

He mentioned that by using the ChatGPT API, it only costs 2 USD to use 1 million token characters. In contrast, the money spent on one alien token can be used for 10 trillion ChatGPT tokens!

Note: The alien token refers to a CryptoPunk sold in February last year for 8,000 ETH, approximately 23.7 million USD at the time. Sam Altman indicated that NFTs are also considered a type of token.
