OpenSea announces collaboration with NFT communication platform Metalink, facilitating direct communication between users and official entities.

In January this year, it was a mix of joy and sorrow for NFT trading platform OpenSea. While the trading volume of NFTs hit a new high, users also suffered losses due to contract vulnerabilities and scams in Discord groups. In an effort to address these issues, OpenSea announced a partnership with Web3 communication platform Metalink to establish a direct communication channel with users.

What is Metalink?

Metalink is an emerging Web3 NFT communication platform that originally started as a private chat app for CryptoPunks. It currently provides secure communication channels for multiple NFT projects with the aim to address the scam issues Discord is currently facing and become its alternative.

In addition to information exchange with project teams, Metalink also offers social features where users can track friends and prominent collectors through domain names or wallet addresses, and view their NFT purchase and sale records in real-time, further engaging in private conversations through direct messaging.

OpenSea Collaborates with Metalink

"As we seek to further engage in the NFT ecosystem, OpenSea will collaborate with Metalink. Starting today, there will be a dedicated OpenSea server in Metalink's collection list," said the OpenSea community manager.

Through this collaboration, OpenSea will establish three channels on Metalink, namely announcement, support, and feedback and ideas. These channels will serve as direct communication channels with the OpenSea team, with dedicated community staff interacting with community members.

However, not everyone can access these channels; only holders of specific NFT projects, including CryptoPunks, BAYC, MAYC, Cool Cats, Cryptotoadz, Coolman’s Universe, Cyberkongz, Doodles, and World of Women, are eligible.

Rampant Discord Scams

OpenSea aims to deepen its interaction with the community, likely due to ongoing negative news, especially the listing issues that have caused losses for many prominent project holders. OpenSea has initiated compensation, added new features, and encountered problems with individuals impersonating official personnel in the OpenSea Discord group through private messages.

However, Discord seems to have taken no action against the rampant scam activities, resorting only to temporarily disabling private messages as a temporary solution. Additionally, the previously announced support for Ethereum wallets was met with strong backlash in the community, leading to its termination.

In light of these circumstances, OpenSea has sought an alternative route by collaborating with Metalink. Projects that can establish community channels on Metalink must pass verification and only holders can join. Moreover, users can verify the identity of senders by directly checking their addresses when receiving messages, significantly reducing scam issues. In the future, OpenSea's groups on Metalink will be open to more individuals, providing a space for the public to interact with OpenSea and share feedback.
