LayerZero is a versatile interoperability protocol that connects assets, messages, data, and contracts on different blockchains to achieve omni-chain characteristics. The most intuitive application is asset transfer. Currently, with numerous public chains, asset transfers across different ecosystems are common. The most common method is through cross-chain bridges, but news of hacked bridges is also frequent, raising concerns about security. LayerZero addresses this by using Ultra Light Nodes for asset transfers and message delivery, enhancing security.

Each blockchain is independent, with its own structure and does not communicate with the outside world. For example, if you want to transfer an ETH from the Ethereum chain to Solana, Solana cannot recognize this ETH because it was created under the Ethereum structure, not Solana's. This is where a cross-chain protocol is needed.
