YouTube Cracks Down on Crypto-Related Videos, Creators Claim Multiple Videos Deleted Without Reason

Several YouTubers in the cryptocurrency space have claimed that YouTube has been cracking down on cryptocurrency-related content through a series of new regulations. Since December 23, multiple videos have been removed from cryptocurrency-related channels.

Removing Cryptocurrency Videos Without Cause

Recently, some YouTubers have received warnings from the platform and have been temporarily banned from uploading new videos. Those affected include Chris Dunn, Node Investor, Chico Crypto, Ivan on Tech, Crypto Tips, and others.

Chris Dunn was the first to speak out, criticizing YouTube on Twitter:

@YouTube deleted most of my cryptocurrency videos citing "harmful or dangerous content and sale of regulated goods," wiping out ten years of video creation, 200k subscribers, and over 7 million views. What are you doing @TeamYouTube ?!

The cryptocurrency education channel Node Investor also commented:

Merry Christmas @YouTube, apparently, videos I published about cryptocurrency research two years ago are now not compliant, the rules keep changing.

Reports indicate that YouTube has not publicly stated how cryptocurrency videos violate its policies, meaning creators must carefully review the guidelines to determine where they may have gone wrong.

Some believe that YouTube's actions are intentionally targeting ICOs, referral codes, and other marketing activities related to cryptocurrencies. Others think that the recent crackdown is merely a result of overactive algorithms, and YouTube may reconsider and make adjustments in the future.

Are There Other Options?

Following this wave of takedowns, many channel owners are considering moving to decentralized and uncensored video platforms such as PeerTube, LBRY, BitChute, and DTube.

Previously, it was reported that Twitter plans to create a decentralized media platform. Although its future direction has not been explicitly stated, Twitter's audience generally views this as a positive move.

According to traffic tracking platform Alexa, YouTube is currently the second most visited website globally. Therefore, if YouTube decides to make concessions in this incident, it may still remain the preferred platform for cryptocurrency-related channels.
