You need to have at least one billion dollars to make the list! The latest Forbes ranking has been released, with only these two cryptocurrency tycoons remaining.

Recently, Forbes released the "2020 World Billionaires List," which included Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong as one of the 15 youngest billionaires in the United States. However, based on this year's data, it seems that these billionaires are slightly "poorer" compared to last year, likely due to the impact of the global economic recession.

  • 51% of billionaires are poorer than last year
  • The total net worth of billionaires is $700 billion less than last year

Upon reviewing the latest Forbes list, we discovered several interesting facts:

1. Comparing the 2018 Forbes list of cryptocurrency billionaires, only two made it to the 2020 Forbes list: Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen and Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong
2. The Ripple co-founder is as rich as Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who recently donated $1 billion
3. The Ripple co-founder ranks the same as Taiwan's Tsai Hong-tu of the Tsai family
4. The Coinbase CEO is the youngest billionaire in the financial investment category

Cryptocurrency Wealth Shrinks: Ripple Co-founder Left with Only 30%

In 2018, Forbes released a list of cryptocurrency billionaires, with Binance co-founder Zhao Changpeng gracing the cover of Forbes magazine with a $2 billion fortune. Ahead of him were Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen ($8 billion) and Ethereum co-founder and Consensys founder Joseph Lubin ($5 billion). Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong held assets in the range of $9-10 billion at that time.

Forbes' Crypto Billionaires 2018

By 2020, Chris Larsen's assets had dwindled to $2.6 billion, ranking 804th, on par with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey who had just donated $1 billion in stock and Tsai Hong-tu of Taiwan. Larsen was the CEO of Ripple until December 2016 and now serves as an executive chairman. Joseph Lubin is no longer on the list, while Brian Armstrong's assets remain at $1 billion, ranking 1990th.

The U.S. business magazine "Business Insider" also compiled a list of the 15 youngest American billionaires from Forbes' billionaire list.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong is the oldest among the 15 young billionaires. At 37 years old, his net worth is estimated at $1 billion. Armstrong had previously been named in Forbes and Time magazine's "30 under 30" list. The wealthiest on the young billionaire list is 35-year-old Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, with an estimated net worth of $54.7 billion.

In China's billionaire category, notable figures from the cryptocurrency industry like Binance CEO Zhao Changpeng and OKCoin founder Xu Mingxing are no longer seen. This contrasts with the Hurun Rich List released in early March, where Bitmain's Jihan Wu and Micree Zhan are still listed, ranking 616th and 1196th respectively.

Amazon's Jeff Bezos Tops List for Third Year

Unsurprisingly, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been the world's richest for the third consecutive year. Despite transferring $36 billion worth of Amazon stock to his ex-wife MacKenzie Bezos in a divorce settlement last summer, Amazon's soaring stock prices have pushed Bezos' net worth to $113 billion.

Bill Gates ranks second with $98 billion. On March 14, Microsoft announced a board change where co-founder and technical advisor Bill Gates would step down from the board to focus more on philanthropy.

Billionaires Turn Poor

As of March 18, Forbes listed a total of 2,095 billionaires, 58 fewer than the same period in 2019 and a drop of 226 since March 6, reflecting the significant impact of the coronavirus on global financial markets.

This year, 51% of the billionaires had net assets lower than in 2019, with the total net worth of the list amounting to $8 trillion, a decrease of $700 billion compared to the previous year.
