SEC Delays Several Ethereum ETF Filings

Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart cited a document indicating that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed several Ethereum ETF filings, including:

  • VanEck: VanEck Ethereum ETF

  • Ark: ARK 21 Shares Ethereum ETF

  • Grayscale: Grayscale Ethereum Futures Trust

  • Hashdex: Hashdex Nasdaq Ethereum ETF

Did SEC Clear Pending ETFs for the Christmas Break?

This has led James Seyffart, who has always been optimistic that the SEC would eventually approve these ETFs, to speculate that the SEC may have simply cleared the list of pending ETFs due to the upcoming Christmas holiday.

He also mentioned that after the delay, the SEC has opened the floor for public comments to determine whether Ethereum ETFs should be treated differently from Bitcoin spot ETFs.

Ark Bitcoin Spot ETF Now Live on DTCC

According to the DTCC website, the Ark Bitcoin Spot ETF with the trading symbol ARKB is now live on the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) in the United States.

James Seyffart shared some personal insights and predictions on Twitter:

  1. Still believes that Bitcoin spot ETFs will be approved between 1/8 and 1/10.

  2. GBTC will successfully transition to a Bitcoin spot ETF; the only question is "when" rather than "if" the transition will happen.

  3. Various industry players have followed the negotiated outcomes with the SEC and modified the cash creation and redemption mechanisms of the ETFs.
