Fake news reemerges! U.S. major chain supermarket "Kroger" announces on its official website the adoption of Bitcoin Cash (BCH)

Following the fake news about "Walmart accepting Litecoin payments" last time, a similar incident occurred with the major U.S. supermarket chain Kroger adopting Bitcoin cash, with the false information even being directly posted on its official website.

Is Kroger Accepting Bitcoin Cash Starting December?

Established in 1883, Kroger is one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States. According to its official website, on 11/5, Kroger announced the adoption of Bitcoin Cash, BCH, starting December 1st this year for all Kroger stores and online shopping.

The article also mentions the process of BCH coming into existence through the Bitcoin fork, highlighting its lower transaction costs compared to Bitcoin. It states that Kroger will convert BCH to stablecoins for settlement when users make payments, and there is a possibility of retaining some BCH on the balance sheet.

Kroger: Under Investigation

Kroger told Reuters that the false news was directly published on their website because the official site automatically updates articles from the U.S. corporate news service Prnewswire, which specializes in releasing various press releases.

A company spokesperson stated:

The news is fraudulent and baseless, and should be ignored. Kroger has removed the news and is urgently investigating the incident with Prnewswire.

Previously, on September 13th, the news service website GlobeNewswire also released a fake press release claiming "U.S. retail giant Walmart to accept Litecoin payments starting October 1st," which led to a surge of over 30% in Litecoin (LTC) followed by a drop back to its original value.

However, this time, the manipulators were not as lucky. Due to Kroger's swift response and clarification, BCH surged by 7% within minutes, only to fall back to its original value shortly after.

BCH 4H

Nevertheless, Kroger has had interactions with cryptocurrency applications in the past. In November last year, Kroger announced a partnership with the Bitcoin rewards platform Lolli, allowing Lolli users to earn 1.5% Bitcoin back on Kroger's online shopping.
