NBA Nets star Kevin Durant officially becomes Coinbase spokesperson.

NBA Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant, also known as KD, and his venture capital firm Thirty Five Ventures have partnered with the exchange Coinbase. KD will serve as their spokesperson, and the exchange will also invest funds into KD's charity foundation, KDCF, in the future.

More Than Just an Ambassador

According to a press release from Boardroom, a sports website under KD's brand, in addition to KD becoming an ambassador, Boardroom will also be one of Coinbase's media partners, assisting in the publication of crypto-related advertisements and sponsored content. The terms of Coinbase's investment in KD's charity foundation were not disclosed.

Thirty Five Ventures 35V will also collaborate deeply with Coinbase on various content, including NFT releases, empowering the public with cryptocurrency, NFT education, and Coinbase's growth in the industry.

The Connection Between KD and Coinbase

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong had already been in talks with 35V as early as 2016. 35V participated in Coinbase's Series D fundraising of $100 million in 2017. Rich Kleiman, co-founder and CEO of 35V, stated:

As 35V's projects developed, KD frequently interacted with Coinbase, and four years later, they invested in our platform, in KD, and our foundation. I believe this is what a good partnership looks like. KD rarely endorses specific brands, which shows his genuine interest in this collaboration.

Kleiman also pointed out that looking back at history, excellent brands always endure, such as Mercedes-Benz, Rolex, and American Express. Within five years, Coinbase has become the iconic company of this era, which aligns with 35V's philosophy.

Durant also expressed on Twitter that he is ready for the next stage.

In October of this year, Coinbase reached a multi-year agreement with the NBA to become a partner of the NBA, WNBA, G League, and the exclusive crypto platform. In July of this year, Durant also participated in a $100 million funding round led by a16z for OpenSea.
