President Trump expresses strong dissatisfaction with the relief bill! He demands that Congress increase the relief payment from $600 to $2,000.

President Trump has raised concerns about the $900 billion relief package negotiated by congressional leaders from both the Republican and Democratic parties after months of discussions. He is demanding that Congress amend the proposal and increase the amount of direct stimulus payments to the public from the current $600 to $2,000.

Trump Displeased with Congressional Relief Proposal

According to previous reports, the congressional leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties in the United States announced a preliminary consensus on the fiscal year 2021 spending bill from October 2020 to September 2021 on December 20. This includes a federal budget package totaling $1.4 trillion and a relief plan of $900 billion. It is expected that the U.S. government will directly pay $600 to each individual and provide $300 in weekly unemployment benefits on average.

Current U.S. President Trump has signed off on the $1.4 trillion federal budget package, but he appears dissatisfied with the relief plan. In a video released this morning, Trump openly stated that the relief plan proposed by Congress is far from what he had in mind. Trump demanded that Congress remove unnecessary expenditures and significantly increase the cash relief amount for individuals from the current "ridiculous $600" (quoting Trump verbatim) to $2,000, or $4,000 per couple.

Trump also emphasized that a significant portion of the relief package funds flow overseas. He stated that it is the American people who need assistance, and the American people are not at fault, but rather China. Trump further threatened that if Congress cannot come up with a relief plan that satisfies him, he may choose not to sign the proposal and leave it to the next administration (perhaps Trump himself) to handle.

$2,000, Let's Vote!

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer responded to Trump's comments, stating that in fact, the Democratic Party spent months trying to keep the cash relief amount at $2,000 but faced various obstacles from the Republican Party:

"Trump needs to sign the bill to help the people and keep the government open. We are glad to provide more needed assistance to the American people. Perhaps Trump can finally be of some use and not let the Republicans obstruct again."

In response, House Speaker and Democratic Party member Nancy Pelosi tweeted regarding Trump's public statement:

"Republicans have repeatedly refused to disclose the amount of cash payments the President wants. Finally, the President openly stated that he wants to distribute $2,000 in relief funds, and Democrats unanimously agreed to vote on it this week. Let's act!"
