Interactive Brokers, a well-known U.S. electronic brokerage firm, is expected to open cryptocurrency trading services before the end of summer. In response, Chairman Thomas Peterffy stated, "Some of our clients are very interested, and I can understand why."

In fact, Peterffy has always been skeptical of Bitcoin, especially in 2017 when CME was preparing to launch Bitcoin futures trading. He mentioned that he had no objections to cryptocurrency traders but warned about the complex relationship between cryptocurrencies, federal regulations, and the real economy.

Therefore, when the news of Interactive Brokers opening cryptocurrency trading emerged, public comments and doubts also arose. In an interview with CNBC on Wednesday, Thomas Peterffy publicly admitted to owning some cryptocurrencies, but he still remains skeptical about the long-term development of the cryptocurrency market.

He said, "I have put a little money in the cryptocurrency market myself. On one hand, I think the feasibility of the overall industry development is low; on the other hand, there is still a chance it could become the leading global currency. Sometimes, you just have to try your luck." At the same time, he did not disclose which cryptocurrencies he holds.

Today, many cryptocurrency communities view Bitcoin as a long-term store of value and maintain an optimistic outlook on its development. It's somewhat like the story of small shrimps challenging big whales, hoping for a powerful and prosperous blockchain application and its associated digital assets to disrupt the traditional financial market system. Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and financial technology company Square, recently stated, "I hope Bitcoin helps create world peace." Interestingly, on this day last year, Bitcoin was trading at less than $10,000 per coin.
