TikTok follows Threads in launching text post feature, becoming a competitor to "X".

The battle among social media platforms is heating up this year. Musk has made extensive changes to Twitter, even altering the platform's name and classic logo. Meta has introduced a competitor to Twitter called Threads, and now even TikTok, known for its focus on videos, has launched a feature for text posts.

TikTok Expands Text Post Feature

TikTok announced that text posts provide users with another way to express themselves, whether sharing stories, recipes, or other written content, making creation easier.

When users click on the camera button, they will see options for photos, videos, and text posts. Text posts can also include additional features such as sound, tags, enabling comments, and duets, allowing text posts to interact with other users on TikTok like regular video posts.

The specific features include:

  • Stickers: Make posts more vibrant.

  • Tags: Tag users, add topic tags.

  • Background: Add background colors to posts.

  • Sound: TikTok emphasizes this as a core experience on the platform.

TikTok and Meta's Copying Strategies May Not Succeed

Starting by copying the short video app Musical.ly and riding the wave of increasing smartphone and internet accessibility, TikTok rose to fame.

Last year, TikTok essentially copied the emerging social platform BeReal onto its platform. BeReal focuses on real-time video posts, allowing users to post spontaneously shot content from front and rear cameras within a two-minute limit.

TikTok's "TikTok Now" randomly notifies users daily and gives them three minutes to post.

However, TikTok notified users in June that the "TikTok Now" feature would be discontinued, allowing users to view old posts but not post new ones.

While Meta's Threads initially gained a large number of registrations upon launch, according to Business Insider citing Similarweb data, Threads users' platform usage time has dropped from 21 minutes to just over 6 minutes, with the speed of gaining new users nearly matching the speed of losing users.

Musk: "X" Will Become the Most Valuable Brand

Will Musk's "X" beat all imitations and emerge as the ultimate winner?

He earlier tweeted in response to news that "Twitter's name change could cost $40 to $200 billion in brand value":

"X" will become the most valuable brand on Earth, mark my words.
