LayerZero x Polyhedra Network: Enhancing cross-chain communication capabilities of zero-knowledge proofs
LayerZero collaborates with Polyhedra Network to integrate zkLightClient into LayerZero, creating a cross-chain communication platform that utilizes zero-knowledge proofs.
LayerZero officially announces the integration of zkLightClient from the Polyhedra Network team, significantly enhancing the cross-chain interoperability capabilities of all chains supported by LayerZero. In terms of security, performance, and cost, this integration is an important step towards promoting unified cross-chain interoperability standards and infrastructure development.
Almost 15 months ago we launched with the promise to always bring the latest validation technologies to market. Today LayerZero is doing just that by rolling out a production grade zk light client from the @PolyhedraZK team. pic.twitter.com/wBSC0eI4VQ

Improving Cross-Chain Interoperability with Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKP)
LayerZero is a complete cross-chain communication protocol that supports cross-chain messaging. Applications developed using blockchain technology (decentralized applications) can seamlessly connect to over 30 supported blockchains through the LayerZero protocol, enabling dApp users to securely and efficiently interact with cross-chain assets.
Polyhedra Network is building the next-generation infrastructure for Web3 interoperability by leveraging advanced zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP) technology. The Polyhedra Network team has designed and developed the Polyhedra zkLightClient technology based on the LayerZero protocol, providing a cutting-edge solution for secure and efficient cross-chain infrastructure for interoperability between Layer-1 and Layer-2 blockchain networks.
Integrating Polyhedra zkLightClient Technology into LayerZero
The zkLightClient technology by Polyhedra seamlessly integrates into LayerZero's messaging protocol, allowing application developers to easily leverage zero-knowledge proof technology. With the rich developer tools and community support provided by LayerZero, developers can effortlessly build cross-chain applications using zkLightClient on the LayerZero platform.
LayerZero's ULNv2 verification library relies on two components, Oracle and Relayer, to facilitate information exchange between endpoints on the chain. When transferring information from chain A to chain B, data is routed through endpoints on chain A and verified by the ULNv2 library. The ULNv2 library then notifies the Oracle and Relayer about the information and its target chain. The Oracle subsequently forwards the hash of the packet to the endpoints on chain B, while the Relayer submits the packet for hash verification on the same chain before transmission.
The on-chain client based on zkLightClient allows validators from the sending chain to demonstrate the current state of their chain to the receiving chain. By combining zkLightClient with other libraries, LayerZero's messaging protocol gains enhanced security. Due to the high cost of on-chain transaction verification (necessary for proof but not for the application itself), the cost of on-chain transaction verification can be as high as $50-100 million per day for each pair connected to Ethereum.
The zkLightClient technology developed by Polyhedra Network on LayerZero utilizes the compression capabilities of ZKP to significantly reduce verification latency and costs through efficient ZKP protocols. Additionally, multiple transaction verifications can be batched into a single zero-knowledge proof, further reducing costs.
Enhancing Cross-Chain Interoperability with Zero-Knowledge Proofs
The collaboration on zero-knowledge proof technology between LayerZero and Polyhedra Network transforms LayerZero into ZK LayerZero, the world's first zkLightClient with zero-knowledge proof capabilities for cross-chain messaging and Oracle services. The goal is to establish a secure, efficient, cost-effective, and interoperable blockchain ecosystem through the implementation of zero-knowledge proofs.
In the future, LayerZero and Polyhedra Network will extensively collaborate on applying zero-knowledge proof technology to cross-chain interoperability. By leveraging zero-knowledge proofs, we can enhance the security and performance of cross-chain operations while reducing costs, unlocking the full potential of blockchain and Web3 interoperability. This partnership will have a profound impact on both parties' ability to achieve seamless connectivity.
