Former Twitter employees launch new social media platform Spill! Utilizing blockchain technology to reward creators, registration is now open

Elon Musk made significant cuts to the Twitter workforce recently, and it has been reported that former employees have collaborated to develop a new social media platform called "Spill." Spill not only uses blockchain technology to record posts and reward creators but also aims to give a voice to underrepresented creators in the community.

Former Twitter Employees Launch Social Media Platform Spill

Following Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter, Phonz, the former global head of social and editorial at Twitter, along with thousands of colleagues, was laid off. However, just a month after leaving, Phonz announced the upcoming launch of a new social media platform called Spill, in collaboration with his friend DeVaris Brown, also a former Twitter employee.

Note: DeVaris Brown, a former product manager for machine learning at Twitter who left the company in 2020, now serves as the CTO of Spill.

As former Twitter employees, the Spill team claims to understand the challenges currently facing social media platforms. They plan to use large language model AI to improve content moderation and user support, as well as utilize blockchain technology to reward and incentivize creators.

Furthermore, a key focus for Spill will be to reward creators who often lead trends but are overlooked, such as Black women, the LGBTQ+ community, and other vibrant non-U.S. communities.

On the initial Spill platform, users will be able to:

  1. Create and share content with the public using the "Spill" feature for creation and commenting.
  2. Engage in in-app chats with friends in both virtual and real-life settings.
  3. Follow cultural commentary on current events happening around the world.
  4. Receive rewards if a user's Spill post goes viral.

"Ultimately, our goal is to make Spill a practical platform for exploring and discussing global culture," said the Spill team.

Spill Opens Registration – What's the Connection to Blockchain?

Spill is currently open for registration on the waitlist and interested users can sign up on the official website. The Alpha test version is expected to be launched in January next year.

According to Phonz, the CEO of Spill, the waitlist for Spill has already surpassed 41,000 people as of this morning, nearing their goal of 50,000.

Additionally, addressing some blockchain-related questions, Phonz mentioned that they will use blockchain technology to establish a public record for Spill to reward creators. However, Spill will not issue tokens nor compensate cryptocurrency creators.
