TON will introduce palm vein recognition and launch the Toncoin reward program.

According to a report from The Block, the TON ecosystem will use palm scanning for identity verification through the Toncoin initiative launched by TON Society and HumanCode, offering incentives exceeding $5 million, challenging Worldcoin co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Promoting Identity Verification, Anti-Bot, and No Additional Hardware Required

TON Society is collaborating with the artificial intelligence company HumanCode to launch this initiative. The project verifies users' identities by scanning their palms and storing the information on the blockchain while preserving their anonymity.

HumanCode rewards will be distributed to TON Society members who complete the palm scanning and pass the identity verification. Additionally, the protocol aims to combat bots on the chain while giving users control over their online identities. The company claims that any smartphone can use palm scanning technology and prove that the user is human within seconds, without the need for specific hardware.

Ekin Tuna, Director of Development at TON Foundation, stated in a release:

Scalable, private, and decentralized identities will help the first billion users join the Web3 ecosystem of Telegram. We look forward to seeing it unlock other exciting use cases for the community and TON developers.

Privacy and Regulatory Issues Continue to Plague Worldcoin

However, the pioneer Worldcoin has faced a series of regulatory issues since its inception, with the Spanish data protection agency AEPD imposing a three-month ban, citing infringement such as collecting data from minors. Meanwhile, the company is also under investigation by the South Korean Personal Information Protection Commission to confirm any potential violations.

To address market concerns about its privacy, Worldcoin introduced "personal custody" in March, eliminating the option for the encrypted project to store biometric data, which will now only be kept on users' own devices.
