Similar to MakerDAO? Sun Yuchen shares progress on decentralized stablecoin, jokingly called the copy and paste master

On March 28, Tron founder Justin Sun announced the launch of a decentralized application (Dapp) project called Djed based on the Tron blockchain on Twitter. The project is a platform for issuing decentralized stablecoins, similar to MakerDAO on the Ethereum blockchain. Some experts even claim that the project is essentially a copy of MakerDAO.

MakerDAO's Clone

Tron founder Justin Sun revealed on January 17th that the Tron community would launch a new decentralized stablecoin project. At that time, a netizen claiming to be a member of the TRON and BitTorrent communities named the project we now see as "Djed". Djed is one of the older and more common symbols in ancient Egyptian religion, representing "stability".

The Djed platform claims to be developed by the Tronscan community of Tron. However, based on the Djed user interface image released by Justin Sun, it is evident that its user interface bears a high resemblance to several MakerDAO-based websites such as Oasis.app, vote.makerdao.com, and cdp.makerdao.com.

Apart from the user interface, the protocol code itself seems to be a direct reference to MakerDAO's old version of the Single Collateral Dai protocol. Although the platform's source code has not been disclosed, from the contract names on the Tron chaincontract, we can see that the platform's smart contracts closely resemble MakerDAO's contract names, with two contracts even boldly using the names Sai and Dai, the stablecoins of MakerDAO.

Open Source Repository: Reference or Plagiarism?

Tron referencing concepts or code from other projects to develop their own products is not new. Many early entrants into the cryptocurrency market know that Tron's early code and original whitepaper were copied from Ethereum, leading to strong negative perceptions of Tron among developers and investors. Additionally, in January this year, Tron introduced Zcash's zero-knowledge proof code into Tron's system to address privacy issues in transactions.

However, it is important to note that whether it's MakerDAO, Ethereum, Zcash, or other blockchain open-source projects, the code is open for anyone to reference or use. Tron or Tronscan has not claimed that the platform is an independently or internally developed product. Therefore, people technically do not have the grounds to accuse Djed of being a plagiarized project. Nevertheless, the key point to consider is whether an ecosystem that is mostly copied from elsewhere has the capability to promptly address protocol issues when they arise.
