Most MetaMask users have never adjusted Gas! What new features may appear after EIP-1559?

Ethereum core developer Tim Beiko shared on Twitter something he found quite interesting recently, where MetaMask's UI/UX developer Jake Lee Haugen stated at Trenton Van Epps' EIP-1559 discussion:

Possible Changes in Functionality and User Experience for MetaMask in the Future

On this tweet, Tim Beiko retweeted a tweet from a former Ethereum and Chainlink data security engineer here, where he expressed that the implementation of the EIP-1559 mechanism was a very good decision as he no longer needs to speed up his transactions.

The statements made by Tim Beiko indicate that there are changes happening in the design of user experience in current wallets. The current user experience of wallets considers setting Gas fees based on different transaction speed needs, allowing users to choose from Low, Medium, and High based on their preferences.

However, with the arrival of EIP-1559, the payment model is changing, and wallets need to provide users with new settings and options during checkout, such as "paying the current required fee when the network is not congested," "waiting for peak congestion to end during network congestion," and "directly bidding higher than everyone else when demand surges." Tim Beiko mentioned that many wallet teams are aware of this issue and are developing in this direction.

Tim Beiko believes that before EIP-1559, the user experience of MetaMask followed a J-curve progression, stating:

The user experience got worse after people adapted, and the improvements were quite slow. Hopefully, the user experience of wallets can be better than it is now in the future.

Although MetaMask has faced criticism in its usage, it remains the most widely used cryptocurrency wallet in the entire blockchain industry. People are looking forward to what new features it will introduce in the future and the changes it will bring to user experience.
