On the evening of 9/17, SushiSwap was reported by foreign media that the core leader Maki's address has been removed from SushiSwap's operational multisig, sparking rumors of an exit. The crypto community has been sending blessings to Maki, but Maki announced today that he will not leave, but instead will transition to an advisory role.

SushiSwap has recently faced a series of challenges. First, the coin issuance platform MISO was hacked, resulting in the theft of 865 ETH. This was followed by reports that core team member Maki would be leaving the leadership team, causing SUSHI to drop nearly 20% overnight. However, the hacker returned the assets last night, and Maki has officially announced the transition to an advisory role.

Crazy Vampire Attack

Maki stated in a declaration that he transitioned into an advisor role last week, and his year as a core leader has been a crazy journey, from a yield farm to launching a vampire attack on Uniswap and migrating nearly $1 billion in liquidity.

After experiencing human greed and the anonymous founder Chef Nomi attempting a rug pull, SushiSwap fell into the abyss but rose from the ashes.

Maki pointed out that the protocol now has over 20 core developers, a versatile single frontend, and two additional protocols, Kashi and Miso, deployed on over a dozen EVM-compatible chains, with the upcoming NFT platform Shoyu. He believes that the current team can continue to develop without him.

SushiSwap Should Not Have a Leader

Maki stated that he will transition from daily operations to an advisory role, assisting in nurturing the next generation team of SushiSwap. He emphasized his belief in the Ethereum community, especially with Layer 2 solutions gradually being deployed, regardless of the chain's development. He mentioned:

I have always strived to remove leaders from SushiSwap, hoping that no one will try to stand on a pedestal to lead SushiSwap and to promote decentralization as much as possible.

He expressed his hope to remain a part of the multisig treasury and to participate in governance voting if the community disagrees, reassuring everyone of his intention to stay and his calmness in making decisions, while also thanking all for their support.

Uniswap Founder: Remarkable Developer

Uniswap founder Hayden Adams responded on Twitter stating:

Maki is an impressive community developer. I thought Sushi was over after Nomi's exit, but he single-handedly turned the tide. I have had several discussions with him, he is always kind, and I wish him all the best in the future.

Paradigm analyst Dan Robinson also mentioned:

Maki is undoubtedly a talented and always kind individual. His exceptional integrity and courage allowed him to experience a rug pull and turn the situation around. I miss everything he brought and look forward to his next steps.

After issuing the statement, Maki changed his Twitter bio to "Co-founder and Advisor" and released the latest short film created by Taiwanese animation artist pplpleasr for the lending product Kashi.
