US Prosecutors Seek 3-Year Imprisonment for Zhao Changpeng

Binance founder Zhao Changpeng, known as CZ, previously pleaded guilty to charges including money laundering with the US Department of Justice and is expected to be sentenced in the US on April 30. Despite there being a week until the sentencing, US prosecutors have urged the Western District of Washington court to impose a 36-month imprisonment on CZ.

According to Reuters, US prosecutors stated:

Considering Zhao Changpeng's deliberate violation of US laws and the serious consequences, it is necessary to impose a 36-month imprisonment above the upper limit of the federal sentencing guidelines.

Based on the charges Zhao Changpeng violated, the federal sentencing guidelines prescribe a maximum sentence of 18 months, which CZ's legal representatives had previously appealed against.
