SBF applies for release to meet with lawyer, trial battle starts early in October

The founder of FTX, SBF (Sam Bankman-Fried), who is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, has applied to meet with his lawyer in court and use a networked laptop to read relevant documents.

SBF, who faced multiple accusations due to the bankruptcy of FTX, was granted bail at the end of last year with a bail of $250 million. However, SBF, who had been residing at his parents' house for some time, had his bail revoked by the judge for attempting to interfere with multiple witnesses, which violated the bail conditions, and is currently detained.

According to a report by Bloomberg, SBF's lawyer, Christian Everdell, wrote to U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan last Friday, 8/18, stating that SBF's detention has prevented him from properly reviewing the massive case. While being held at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, his case has accumulated a large number of documents.

Lawyer Christian Everdell mentioned that the government produced hundreds of thousands of pages of documents last week, which should have been produced months ago. If SBF remains detained, it would be impossible for him to review them according to the schedule.

Everdell stated:

Allowing SBF to meet with his lawyers in court and use a networked laptop would expedite the trial process, which is necessary for the fraud trial scheduled to begin in October.

Meanwhile, the prosecutors also complained to the judge that SBF had not submitted all the necessary information related to his defense plans. Although the prosecutors had suggested moving SBF to a smaller prison in the northern part where he could use a networked laptop, the prison officials rejected the idea.

The SBF case, delayed by several months, is set to go to trial in October. Despite U.S. federal prosecutor Damian Williams making continuous moves recently, SBF is also making constant small moves, indicating that this drama is far from over.
