APT Fake Tokens Flood into Korean Exchange Upbit

The Korean DeFi community Definalist pointed out on the 24th evening that Upbit had urgently halted the deposit and withdrawal of Aptos APT tokens citing wallet system maintenance. Several Korean users also posted that their exchange addresses received APT tokens without them transferring any APT to their exchange wallets.

In addition, there were reports of Upbit customer service continuously communicating with users who sold fake APT tokens, requesting them to return the funds.

Upbit Users Airdropped $250 APT

Definalist stated that Upbit's wallet system only checked the token type parameter, causing all transfers with the same functionality to be treated as APT native tokens.

Fortunately, scammers mistakenly input data while creating the fake tokens; otherwise, users would have received tokens worth $25,000 instead of just $250.

Upbit: Deposit and Withdrawal Services Resumed

Upbit did not mention the incident on Twitter but only stated in a exchange notice that normal services have been restored, outlining the incident as follows:

  1. Monitoring detected abnormal deposits of APT, leading to the temporary suspension of APT deposits and withdrawals for a wallet system check.

  2. After inspecting the APT wallet system and confirming the stability of deposits and withdrawals, APT services have been resumed.

  3. All APT transactions are secure.

The fake token incident caused APT to briefly surge by 30% on Upbit, with prices returning to normal a few hours later.
