U.S. prosecutor cites SBF lying precedent, seeks bail condition barring access to FTX-related funds

SBF's court appearance this time met expectations from all sectors. He denied multiple criminal charges, and the trial date is set for ten months from now. Below are updates on other relevant information about SBF.

White House: Meeting with SBF Mainly Discussing Pandemic Issues

Earlier reports stated that SBF and his younger brother, Gabriel Bankman-Fried, attended at least five meetings at the White House last year, focusing on the cryptocurrency industry and exchange operations.

In response to this, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated at a press briefing that the meetings mainly focused on pandemic plans, with "potentially" some general information about cryptocurrency exchanges.

Furthermore, Karine Jean-Pierre once again avoided addressing whether the White House will return the donations made by SBF in the past.

SBF's Parents Facing Harassment Threats

SBF's parents, who previously acted as two of the four guarantors in the bail agreement, have reportedly received numerous threatening letters, leading SBF's lawyer to express concerns for the safety of the other two guarantors. They have requested the judge to keep the identities of these two guarantors anonymous.

According to Bloomberg, the guarantors must have a certain financial capacity, and one cannot be a relative. These two guarantors have not yet signed the bail agreement, but if they do so before the deadline on 1/5, their identities will be disclosed.

Furthermore, Judge Lewis Kaplan not only scheduled the trial date for 10/2 but also approved this request.

SBF Prohibited from Accessing Related Wallets

Prior to SBF's court appearance, there was unusual activity on the blockchain of Alameda-related wallets. Despite SBF's denial, Assistant U.S. Attorney Danielle Sassoon, citing previous instances of SBF lying, such as deleting tweets claiming that FTX was completely fine, requested the judge to add "prohibiting SBF from accessing or transferring funds related to FTX and Alameda" to the bail conditions.

Judge Lewis Kaplan approved this request.
