SBF Granted One-Day Meeting with Lawyers

According to legal documents, Judge Lewis Kaplan, the presiding judge in the FTX case, has approved a request for SBF to meet with his legal team at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center's attorney room on August 22, from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM Eastern Time.

Lewis Kaplan has also allowed SBF's lawyers to bring a laptop with internet connectivity and Wi-Fi equipment.

However, Judge Lewis Kaplan has already denied most of the requests made by SBF's legal representatives, who had previously requested SBF to be allowed the use of a laptop on weekdays for five days per week and to prepare for the October trial, but the judge ultimately approved only a one-time meeting.

Judge Lewis Kaplan noted at the end of the document: "All other requests for August 22 have been denied."

Progress in the FTX Case

SBF and his legal team have been active recently in anticipation of the upcoming October trial, but their aggressive actions seem to have led to his early incarceration.

First, former Alameda CEO Caroline Ellison's diary was exposed by The New York Times.

This move was met with accusations from U.S. prosecutors, alleging that SBF deliberately provided past diaries to the media to tarnish Caroline's potential witness status in future criminal proceedings.

Presiding Judge Lewis Kaplan confirmed at a hearing on August 11 that SBF did attempt to interfere with witnesses and revoked his bail, leading to his early detention.

Additionally, the Unsecured Creditors Committee (UCC) has been vocal about the progress of the FTX restructuring team.

  • July 21: Prosecutors accuse SBF of deliberately leaking Alameda's former CEO diary to tarnish the witness's credibility

  • August 9: Accused of ignoring creditors' opinions, FTX's restructuring lawyers rebut: creditors are missing, idle cash investments carry risks

  • August 11: Attempted to interfere with multiple witnesses! SBF's bail has been revoked, and he will be detained before the October trial

  • August 17: FTX settles with Genesis for $175 million, Creditors Committee: worst deal so far
