South Korean Exchange GDAC Hacked for $13 Million

According to GDAC's official statement, on the morning of April 9th, South Korean time, GDAC's hot wallet was hacked, resulting in approximately 23% of the exchange's total assets being stolen. The stolen assets include:

  • 60.8 BTC

  • 350.5 ETH

  • 220,000 USDT

  • 10 million WEMIX tokens

The WEMIX team, ranked 221 in market capitalization, also tweeted that they are closely monitoring the situation.

South Korean Exchange GDAC Coordinates Asset Freezing with Stakeholders

GDAC has requested exchange owners to block deposits to the relevant addresses according to the official notice. Other measures taken include:

  • Informing the South Korean Financial Intelligence Unit
  • Suspending GDAC's servers and deposit/withdrawal services

  • Filing a police report and requesting a cybercrime investigation

  • Seeking technical support from the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA)

  • Requesting token issuers, exchanges, and DeFi protocols to jointly freeze assets

GDAC CEO Seunghwan Han emphasized that the wallet system and related servers were immediately blocked after the hack, and they are cooperating with domestic and international exchanges, as well as cryptocurrency project issuers, to recover the stolen assets.
