2017 Congressional Hearing Raised the "Buy Bitcoin" Sign
The iconic sign that has become one of the classic memes in the crypto space was created by Christian Langalis, who was just 22 years old at the time and an intern at the Cato Institute, a US think tank.
In July 2017, Christian Langalis had the opportunity to attend a congressional hearing and managed to sit behind then-Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen. He quickly wrote the slogan on a sign, which was captured by TV cameras and quickly went viral, resulting in him being asked to leave the hearing.
Sign Sold for One Million Dollars
Bloomberg cited the auction site Scare City, stating that the winning bidder was an anonymous buyer who bid 16 bitcoins.
The sign was actually a page from a notebook, with the "Buy Bitcoin" slogan page torn out shortly after the hearing but later reattached.
Christian Langalis, the creator, mentioned in an interview that the proceeds from the auction will be used to fund a Bitcoin software project.
