Ukraine goes all-in on crypto! Even cyber police now accept cryptocurrency donations for "charitable aid"

Ukraine is increasingly relying on cryptocurrency donations, with even the cyber police unit responsible for investigating and arresting online criminals turning to the domestic and international crypto community for support. Why do cyber police need cryptocurrency donations? Because they require digital currency to sustain law enforcement personnel and acquire basic supplies.

According to a report by Bitcoin.com, the cyberpolice department of the National Police of Ukraine has joined the Kyiv government and Ukrainian NGOs in attempting to receive financial support through cryptocurrency during the Russian military invasion. The cyberpolice force is the law enforcement agency in Ukraine responsible for combating cybercrime, and in the past has taken action against illegal crypto activities. However, in 2018, they also called for the legalization of cryptocurrencies.

The cyberpolice department recently posted an announcement on their official website, expressing their willingness to accept "charitable assistance" provided in digital currencies and disclosed several cryptocurrency wallet addresses for donations, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether (USDT), Tron (TRX), MATIC, and BNB.

The cyberpolice department stated that the received cryptocurrency donations will be used for the National Police, National Guard, State Border Guard Service, and National Emergency Service to purchase medicines and other necessities for duty, providing medical services to victims of hostile actions with Russia.

In mid-February, the Ukrainian parliament passed a law on virtual assets, expected to come into effect after updates to Ukraine's tax laws.

Since the Russian invasion, Kyiv has actively sought financial support through various channels. They have already received millions in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other currencies, with volunteer groups also being supported by cryptocurrency donors. The world's largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance has pledged $10 million to assist the Ukrainian people.
