Bitcoin 2021 Conference | Attendee reportedly diagnosed with COVID-19! Foreign media warns: Could lead to a "super-spreader event"

The three-day Bitcoin 2021 conference held in early June in Miami was reported to have confirmed cases of COVID-19. Foreign media claimed it could become a "super spreader event."

Bitcoin Conference Turns into COVID-19 Outbreak

The three-day Bitcoin conference gathered cryptocurrency enthusiasts from around the world, marking the first large-scale in-person event since the outbreak of the pandemic. However, due to the declining COVID-19 cases in the United States, the organizers and attendees seemed to have relaxed their vigilance against the virus. There were no mask requirements or proof of vaccination needed for participation, and everyone at the event engaged in close contact without any protective measures, posing a significant risk for COVID-19 transmission.

Larry Cermak, Director of Research at The Block, mentioned that everyone he had contact with during the event has tested positive for COVID-19. He jokingly remarked that he might have been spared because he breathed air a foot higher than others. However, not everyone was as fortunate. Luke Martin, a developer at Coinist, replied under his tweet:

"Just got my test results back, looks like I wasn't tall enough to dodge the virus."

Eric Wall, Chief Investment Officer at Arcane Research, was also one of the attendees who tested positive for COVID-19. He shared on Twitter this morning that he experienced symptoms of fever and chest pain after returning home, tested positive for COVID-19 in a rapid test, and had evidence of blood clots in his lungs after a CT scan.

According to CNBC's report, around 50,000 people registered for the event, with at least 12,000 attendees present. It is estimated that the Bitcoin conference may lead to a chain of infections and result in more cases in the coming days.
