For the price of one US dollar in Bitcoin, players can purchase some health points to participate in a Battle Royale mode within Minecraft, where they can search for treasures. The treasures in the prize pool will be awarded to the final winner.

The anonymous game creator, known as "Bitcoin Jake," explained that once a player gets close to the treasure location, their position will be exposed to all other players, giving them a chance to challenge the game leader. The first player to find the Bitcoin treasure becomes the winner, and the game ends.

Claiming Rewards with Bitcoin Addresses

According to the game instructions, players need to provide an address when they first log in, which will be used to confirm the source of funding and purchase health points.

The Bitcoin used to buy health points will go into the treasure prize pool, with 10% going to the developers. The game updates the Bitcoin price every fifteen minutes, where one health point equals one US dollar.

Once the treasure is found, if the prize pool has enough to cover the mining fee, 85% of the prize money will be awarded to the winner, with the remainder returning to the prize pool.

Not the First Bitcoin-Minecraft Game

In 2014, a server named Bitquest introduced a cryptocurrency economy into the world of role-playing games, where in-game "emeralds" could be exchanged for small amounts of Bitcoin. By the summer of 2019, the brand had ceased operations.

In 2015, PlayMC allowed players to earn Bitcoin by completing in-game tasks, providing young players with an opportunity to learn about cryptocurrency and earn money in a safe environment. The game server closed in December 2017 when mining fees surged to as high as $55, making small transactions challenging.

The current Bitcoin mining fee is approximately 0.6 US dollars, avoiding the past high peak prices, so SatoshiQuest is unlikely to encounter the same crisis. However, the developers also expressed openness to adopting the Lightning Network for fast and cheap transfers.

The long-lasting Bitquest server generated many thought-provoking results. The server operator, Cristian Gonzalez, once stated that after integrating with the real economy, the game no longer felt like a game. People were less inclined to help each other and more likely to charge for many activities. For instance, in the past, players would help each other build structures for free, but now they demand payment. Additionally, gambling became common, with players playing for money rather than enjoying the game to win prizes.
