End Media opens virtual currency payment! Chinese-language independent media seeks emerging avenues for press freedom

Since the implementation of the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law last year, press freedom in Hong Kong has been greatly suppressed. Stand News, an online media outlet known for its in-depth investigations and data journalism in the Greater China region, announced in early August that it will relocate its headquarters from Hong Kong to Singapore. The media also plans to introduce additional cryptocurrency payment channels to provide members with more diverse payment options.

The Initium opens cryptocurrency payment channel

Last Friday (20), The Initium announced on its official website through a notice that due to the decentralized, borderless, and anonymous nature of cryptocurrencies, it has opened a cryptocurrency payment channel, aiming to provide readers with a convenient and secure payment option.

The Initium has partnered with Coinbase Commerce, a cryptocurrency retail payment platform under Coinbase, so that when readers choose to pay with cryptocurrency, they will be redirected to the Coinbase Commerce page. After linking their Coinbase wallet, readers can choose from up to 7 cryptocurrencies as payment methods, including BTC, ETH, USDC, DOGE, LTC, DAI, and BCH. The cryptocurrencies received by The Initium can also be directly converted into US dollars, euros, and pounds on the Coinbase Commerce platform.

The Initium stated, "As the first Chinese-language media to support cryptocurrency payments, The Initium remains true to its original intention since its establishment. By leveraging technological advancements, we continue to explore new service methods to provide readers with a smoother experience and more diverse choices."
