Bitcoin enthusiasts may be disappointed with Samsung's release of the Galaxy S10 and Note10 in March, as the Galaxy S10 will feature a private key storage function. However, the subsequent release did not include the expected Bitcoin support, only opening up to Ethereum and related ERC-20 tokens.

Control over private keys has always been one of the most important, yet easily overlooked aspects of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. After more than a decade of operation, Bitcoin has never been breached, while many centralized exchanges have been hacked for coins because most people do not store their cryptocurrencies in wallets where they control the private keys.

Now, Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies can be stored in smartphone-based wallets, which are gradually becoming popular. Users can control their private keys and further eliminate reliance on third-party institutions.

With the involvement of major tech companies like Samsung, there is hope to bring new users into the blockchain space, potentially boosting the adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

Currently, the blockchain functionality of Galaxy S10 and Note10 is limited to regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, South Korea, Spain, and Switzerland. The supported series include Galaxy S10e, S10 +, S10 5G, and Note10 +.

In addition to Bitcoin and Ethereum, users of Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note10 will also be able to use the cryptocurrency Klaytn on the Blockchain Keystore, which is a cryptocurrency recently launched by the South Korean communication software giant Kakao.

A report pointed out that Samsung's Blockchain Keystore was launched in March this year and has so far listed 17 decentralized applications, while also developing its own Ethereum-based blockchain system.

However, while Samsung actively embraces cryptocurrencies, its main competitor Apple also announced the launch of CryptoKit at the Apple WWDC in June this year, providing a cryptocurrency framework for its developers, allowing key generation and encryption operations to be integrated into iOS applications.
