Europe's largest telecommunications company, Deutsche Telekom, through its subsidiary T-Systems MMS, has announced that it has set up operational nodes for Bitcoin, the Bitcoin Lightning Network, Ethereum, and other networks, and will soon also start mining Bitcoin.

T-Systems MMS T-Systems Multimedia Solutions is a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom in Germany, primarily offering system integration services to group enterprise users and large project implementations.

According to a report by The Block, Dirk Röder, the Head of Web3 Infrastructure and Solutions, stated at the Bitcoin Prague conference that they have been operating nodes for Bitcoin, Bitcoin Lightning Network, Ethereum, and will soon also mine Bitcoin.

"Since 2023, we have been running Bitcoin nodes, we are also running Bitcoin Lightning nodes, and we will soon engage in 'digital currency photosynthesis'."

Dirk Röder later clarified that they will indeed mine Bitcoin.

Deutsche Telekom had previously established similar node operation and investment partnerships with blockchain projects Polkadot, Flow, and Celo. In 2022, the company announced its support for Ethereum by running validator nodes and collaborating with the liquid staking protocol StakeWise, joining its governance DAO. In addition to running nodes on Polkadot and Celo networks, the company has made direct investments in the tokens of these protocols. Furthermore, it supports Q and Chainlink networks.
