According to a previous report by ABM, Opera was founded in Norway in 1995 and was the first browser to support Web3 and have an embedded cryptocurrency wallet. In December 2018, Opera introduced a cryptocurrency wallet to its Android browser and later in April of the same year, launched a desktop browser with an integrated cryptocurrency wallet.

On July 10th, Opera announced in its official blog that it has added support for Bitcoin and Tron blockchains. The move is aimed at further mainstreaming Web 3:

The cryptocurrency wallet in Opera will display balances of TRX and TRC10 tokens, allowing users to send and receive TRC10, TRX, and Bitcoin, and access their transaction history. Opera is positioning itself to be ready for Web3, which should be the new standard for all browsers.

The blog points out that these new features enable users to transact and interact with the future internet supported by blockchain, known as Web3.

However, before Web3 can be widely adopted, there are still many challenges to overcome. These obstacles include user understanding of new terminologies, the complex process of purchasing cryptocurrencies, and the intricate installation procedures.

Compared to other mainstream browsers, Opera remains at the forefront in supporting a diverse range of cryptocurrencies, while the Brave browser continues to focus on developing its own token, BAT Basic Attention Token, and integrating with major platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, Vimeo, Reddit, and Twitter.

The beta version of Opera for Android is currently available for download on Google Play.
