During the Ethereum Community Conference EthCC in Brussels, Belgium, The Open Network TON announced that it will enhance its blockchain ecosystem through a new Layer-2 network: TON Application Chain (TAC), which leverages Polygon technology.

Introduction to TON Application Chain (TAC)

The TON Application Chain (TAC) will utilize Polygon's development kit CDK and interoperability layer AggLayer. CDK is a customizable toolset that allows developers to create their own Layer-2 blockchain using Polygon's zero-knowledge technology, while AggLayer serves as an interoperability layer to address blockchain fragmentation issues.

However, this collaboration is not unique to TON, as the Japanese public chain Astar recently adopted Polygon's products as well.

Telegram Blockchain Ton Still Needs to Attract Ethereum Ecosystem

TON is a blockchain integrated with the messaging software Telegram. This integration with Ethereum-compatible technical architecture is simply to attract Ethereum developers. By enabling EVM-based decentralized applications (dApps) in the TON ecosystem to accelerate its DeFi ecosystem development.

High-speed L1 Building Another L2?

The launch of TAC certainly follows the L2 trend, similar to cases like Coinbase launching Base and OKX introducing X Layer. However, for TON, a non-EVM public chain that boasts a native technical architecture, it has separately introduced an EVM-compatible L2 to attract liquidity, indicating the current native ecosystem is eager to find active participants.

Why Choose Polygon?

Pavel Altukhov, the Russian founder of TAC and also the founder of the TON staking protocol bemo, emphasized their choice of Polygon due to its EVM compatibility, seamless liquidity from EVM chains via AggLayer, comprehensive deployment support, and strong community. He pointed out that these factors were crucial in their decision-making process to build on the Polygon ecosystem.
