Actively Seeking Practical Integration

The non-profit organization IOTA based in Berlin aims to revolutionize the digital identity sector. The project has requested ideas from its community and partners to inspire the development of a unified identity protocol and explore related use cases.

According to reports, IOTA will release a series of Blog posts in the first half of 2020 to clarify how the unified identity protocol will impact various global industry ecosystems.

In addition, IOTA is actively working on developing the first and second-quarter versions of a "Digital Identity Showcase Experimental Application." The IOTA team believes:

Digital identity is not a topic that the IOTA Foundation should develop alone. Within the IOTA community, we see many projects either building or requiring digital identities. We invite everyone willing to contribute to the Discord #digital-id channel to join us.

Digital Identity Is the Need of the Hour

The internet forms the basis for many interactions in the modern world, creating new business opportunities, improving customer experiences, and enriching daily lives. However, it lacks the fundamental needs of trust and privacy. IOTA emphasizes:

Today's internet is overly centralized, lacking in privacy and trust. Companies like Google and Facebook have virtual monopolies on user data, and the repeated data breaches have compromised the personal information of millions of users.

In light of this, IOTA has developed a decentralized application that, with the help of Decentralized Identifiers (DID) and verifiable credentials, can share data and build identities on the network.

In its articles, IOTA emphasizes that the IOTA blockchain is "extremely suitable" for developing applications related to digital identity. It points out that IOTA fundamentally differs from profit-driven blockchain projects, offering a neutral environment where no party can control the identity of others, applicable not only to identifying individuals but also to any organization and entity.
