Ethereum Name Service (ENS) celebrates its fourth birthday and will give away a limited edition NFT by pplpleasr

The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) announced a collaboration with digital artist pplpleasr to celebrate its four-year milestone with the community. Domain name holders meeting specific criteria will receive an NFT artwork designed by pplpleasr.

What is Ethereum Name Service (ENS)?

ENS stands for Ethereum Name Service, which is like the "Domain Name System (DNS)" on the blockchain.

DNS translates IP addresses into domain names, making domain names like .io readable instead of displaying a long string of numbers as an IP address; similarly, ENS allows cryptocurrency addresses like 0xabcdefg to be changed to user-customized names like .eth.

ENS was established in May 2017 by lead developer Nick Johnson with the goal of simplifying sending and receiving cryptocurrencies. Anyone can register single or multiple domain names with an Ethereum address and assign those names to other addresses.

The ".eth" domain names are ERC721-compatible NFTs, allowing them to be auctioned on trading platforms like OpenSea.

How to participate in NFT lottery?

NFT art has flourished in the past six months, but ENS developer Makoto Inoue pointed out that most NFT markets do not have a feature for reverse records to query Ethereum addresses and display specific ENS domain names.

Makoto Inoue also mentioned that users cannot set up reverse records synchronously during registration, and the user interface needs improvement. To further promote users to set up reverse records, NFTs designed by pplpleasr will be gifted to users who have set it up correctly.

Users who set their Ethereum address as an ENS reverse record before block height 12577521, around 05:45 on 6/6 Taipei time, may have the chance to win a prize.

Are there rewards for everyone or is it limited?

ENS is currently undecided on the exact number of NFTs to be given away. They have decided to let the community vote on the governance aggregation platform Snapshot for the execution. Currently, the option "Limited to 100 lottery tickets" has a 60.76% approval rate.

1 Limited to 100 lottery tickets; 2 Unlimited tickets; 3 No opinion

ENS makes cryptocurrency transfers more intuitive and simple, but the easier identification of addresses may also bring privacy issues for high-net-worth users, known as whales.
