On 6/21, tech media The Verge revealed that Meta executives showcased a preview of Threads, a Twitter competitor, during an internal meeting. Threads is said to be based on Instagram and integrated with the decentralized social media protocol ActivityPub, giving users the opportunity to cross-post to other applications supporting ActivityPub, such as Mastodon.
According to reports, Threads, under the project name Project 92, began a few months after Musk acquired Twitter.
